Week Commencing 28/01/13

01/02/13 - Training Ride

Well after what seems like weeks spent in the gym on spinning bikes and cross trainers because of the snowy weather,  it was great to finally put some road miles in today.  The plan was to do a steady 50 on the loaded bike.  I was feeling quite jaded from a 3 day work conference.  The drink and long hours in the bar had me very tired.  Nothing a little fresh air couldn't sort out.  The forecast was spot on.  Dry, sunny but windy and canny nippy.
Heading out with no real route in mind I rode towards Mitford.  The difference in a week is stunning.  Wild garlic and Snowdrops pushing up everywhere.  I headed through Pigedon and then hung a left at Netherwitton.




Dropping back down towards the The Dyke Neuk Pub I headed towards Meldon Park for a coffee stop.  I should of checked the website first 'cause it was shut.  Oh well. My fault.  I pushed on a caught up with a fellow cyclist.  We chatted a while and it turns out she goes to the same gym as me and was planning a trip to the Fat Duck in Bray the following weekend.  Uncanny, as I mentioned that I might be heading there after the Jogle. We parted company and I headed for my normal coffee stop at Belsay, The BlackSmiths.  After a quick coffee and cake I headed home. 50 miles done.

03/02/13 - Training Ride

A very windy day today.  My legs still felt heavy from Friday but still did 40 (ish) miles.  I met Neville in Dinnington and we headed out for a coastal loop.  The ride took us down to Tynemouth Priory and then along to the start of the Hadrian's Cycleway - route 72. AKA dog shit alley. 

 

The route follows the River Tyne upstream towards Newcastle where we stopped off at The Cycle Hub for a quick coffee.  From there it was a windy slog home following the Ouse Burn through Jesmond Dene.

The plan was to do the full 40 miles and put a cheeky 2 mile loop nr home but I got a puncture right outside my house. Handy.
